Dr. West's article relfection

First off, I think that Dr. West is an amazing woman. How she interacts with her students on this level is something you dont see very many teachers do in this day and age.  She teaches them how to interact with society, address important topics within the world and interact on a much larger scale. The use of blogs teaches a person identity and how to communicate with others on a personal  level, which is exactly the way Dr. West teaches her students.

  1. In my reading of West, I don't see how she uses blogs to "teach a person identity and how to communicate with others on a personal level." Maybe I am misunderstanding your point, but I don't see West teaching her students about identity--rather, I see her noticing that her students take on different identities by being themselves while they are participating as students in her class.

As for communicating on a personal level, are you speaking to the fact that she is teaching her students to speak in their own voice (personally) even though they are writing for class? I interpret teaching students to communicate on a personal level as a more intentional move to teach them how to talk to others in a way that is more intimate or about the self.

  2. After reading back through your blog, I noticed a common thread about the "personal" and "self-exploration" in many of your entries. This knowledge can help you focus your research projects from here on out if you are aware that you tend to look through a particular lens most of the time.

I think there is a humanities person underneath those cute cartoons.
